Fire policy

At the Schofield Guest House your safety is of paramount importance and therefore we have a clear line fire safety policy as outlined below.  The Guest House is a strictly no smoking building.

The fire evacuation procedure is displayed in each room, take time to read it with care, familiarising yourself with what you need to do in the case of an emergency.

A fire test is carried out on a weekly basis usually on a Sunday at 10:30am, you will hear a banshee alarm for no more than 10 seconds indicating a test, if it is any longer than this then it is presumed a fire has been discovered and you should leave the building immediately.

If you discover a fire

  1. Operate fire alarm on exit route
  2. Immediately vacate the building.
  3. Assemble on Marshall Avenue on the opposite side of the Schofield Guest House.

If you hear a fire alarm

  1. Leave the building immediately.
  2. Assemble on Marshall Avenue on the opposite side of the Schofield Guest House.
  3. Do not re-enter the building unless instructed to do so.

Our fire alarm system is very sensitive, and will be triggered by smoking in the building. If it is found that our detectors have been covered over or tampered with in any way, the police will be informed. This may result in a criminal prosecution. We are required by law to report any incidents of smoking in the building to the local authorities. We endure to say a huge thank-you to all our guests who adhere to this as incidents are very rare.
